Popular comedian Super Tekla opened up in an interview with Boy Abunda on Fast Talk about how some people still question his gender identity.
People Still Ask, “Are You Really Straight?”
During the interview, Boy Abunda, known as the “King of Talk,” asked Tekla if people still doubt that he is straight.
Tekla admitted that some still ask him, “Ano ba talaga ang identity mo?” (What is really your identity?)
He explained that before, he tried to present himself as a very masculine guy, joking that he looked like a technician fixing an air conditioner. However, he realized that this image didn’t really fit his personality as a performer.
Embracing the Character That Made Him Famous
Tekla shared that everything changed when he started dressing in a feminine style for his comedic performances.
“Nung nag-dress up ako ng girl, lumabas ‘yung character ko, so in-embrace ko ‘yun pero I’m totally a guy, straight.”
(When I dressed as a girl, my character came out, so I embraced it, but I’m totally a guy, straight.”)
Why Did Tekla Choose This Style?
Back in February 2024, Tekla revealed on Sarap ‘Di Ba? that he made this choice out of strategy.
In the entertainment industry, you have to be “madiskarte” (resourceful).
He adapted to what worked best for him as a comedian.
He built his own unique identity, which helped him succeed.
Tekla in Real Life: A Loving Father
While he may dress up in feminine outfits on stage, Tekla said that in his personal life, he dresses like a regular guy.
He is also a father to three children—his teenage daughter Aira and two younger kids.
His Career is Still Going Strong
Tekla continues to be a big name in Philippine comedy. He currently co-hosts “The Boobay and Tekla Show” alongside fellow comedian Boobay. The show has been running for 7 years and remains a fan favorite.
Tekla’s message? Appearances don’t define who you are—but embracing your true self is the key to success!
