Seventy-six overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and two of their dependents have safely arrived in the Philippines from Lebanon, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) announced.
The group, who flew in on Emirates flight EK 334, landed at NAIA on Sunday. This brings the total number of OFWs repatriated by the government from Lebanon to 636, along with 32 dependents.
With Israel’s airstrikes and ground invasion affecting parts of Lebanon, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) raised Alert Level 3, making repatriation voluntary. The government is urging Filipinos in Lebanon to return home while flights are available and has promised to arrange charter flights to help bring them back.
Israel has increased attacks on Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah, an Iran-backed group. In the past year, over 2,400 people have been killed, and more than 1.2 million have been displaced in the conflict.
