Undas 2024: Police Seize Thousands of Banned Items at Manila, QC Cemeteries

On All Saints’ Day, or Undas, police in Manila and Quezon City confiscated thousands of prohibited items from visitors at local cemeteries. Seized items included knives, lighters, matchboxes, cigarettes, vapes, and even plastic cards.

By Friday afternoon, police collected 1,217 banned items from Manila North Cemetery, 946 from Manila South Cemetery, and more in Quezon City. Huge crowds gathered to honor their loved ones, with around 840,000 visitors at Manila North and 76,300 at Manila South. In Quezon City, thousands also came to various cemeteries, including over 9,000 at Himlayang Pilipino and Bagbag Cemetery.

To keep everyone safe, the Philippine Red Cross had 143 volunteers ready to help, treating visitors for minor injuries like bruises and burns. Some people also needed assistance with heat exhaustion and dizziness.

“Accidents can happen anytime,” said the Red Cross. “Our volunteers are on full alert to help visitors and travelers stay safe this Undas.”
