HANOI, Vietnam — Vietnam is speaking out against China for taking its fishermen and their boats in the South China Sea, especially around the Paracel Islands, which both countries argue over. A spokesperson for Vietnam’s foreign ministry said on Thursday that they want China to “immediately release the fishermen and fishing vessels that were illegally detained,” but they didn’t say how many fishermen were taken or when it happened.
In response, a spokesperson from China’s foreign ministry said on Friday that Vietnam should teach its fishermen to avoid waters that China claims.
