The Department of Justice (DOJ) has firmly dismissed former President Rodrigo Duterte’s claims that the country is suffering from “fractured governance.” DOJ officials said his remarks, which hinted at possible military intervention, are both dangerous and misleading.
DOJ Undersecretary Jesse Hermogenes Andres stated that Duterte’s comments insult the hardworking government workers who ensure the delivery of vital services like healthcare, education, and public safety. He emphasized that suggesting a military role in governance undermines democracy and could be considered seditious.
“Our military’s role is to protect the nation, not interfere in civil governance,” Andres said. He reminded the public that the Supreme Court alone has the power to review government actions.
Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla reassured everyone that the government remains strong, focused on fighting lawlessness, and committed to upholding peace and justice for all Filipinos.
The DOJ’s statements were a clear response to Duterte’s recent remarks, which could cause unnecessary fear and distrust in the government.
