Local Officials Decide on Class, Work Suspensions – Palace

Malacañang announced on Sunday that it is up to local officials to decide whether to suspend classes and government work due to Super Typhoon Pepito. The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) stated that the decision should be based on local conditions and safety concerns.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered government agencies to be ready for the worst-case scenario and to ensure basic services continue. He also directed officials to evacuate families living near the coast for their safety.

Typhoon Pepito, the 16th typhoon this year, hit Catanduanes first on Saturday evening and made a second landfall in Aurora on Sunday. Manila has already announced that classes in both public and private schools are suspended for the day, including online classes.

In summary, local officials have the authority to suspend classes and work, while the government focuses on preparing and ensuring everyone’s safety as Typhoon Pepito continues to impact the country.
