China’s ambassador to the United States, Xie Feng, said that China is ready to be friends and partners with the United States, aiming to improve the relationship between the two biggest economies in the world. In a speech in Hong Kong, Xie emphasized that China doesn’t want to replace or surpass the US. Instead, China wants to strengthen its ties with the US by working together on issues like trade, energy, artificial intelligence, and public health.
Xie also talked about President Xi Jinping’s message of rejecting protectionism (where countries put up walls to protect their own businesses) and supporting global trade. He urged both countries to communicate openly and solve problems together, especially with issues like Taiwan, which is a major point of disagreement between China and the US. China sees Taiwan as part of its territory, but Taiwan refuses to accept that claim.
China wants to keep a peaceful and respectful relationship with the US and is hopeful that both countries can find ways to work together on important global challenges.
