The famous Paris Opera House, known as the Palais Garnier, will close for two years starting in mid-2027 to undergo a big renovation. This building is nearly 150 years old and is one of Paris’s most beautiful landmarks. After that, the Opera Bastille, a newer stage opened in 1989, will also close for renovations starting in 2030, for at least two years.
The renovations will cost around 200 million euros (about $217 million). Both buildings need updates to make their stages better for performances, as they have become old and were not properly maintained for many years. While these two venues are being renovated, the Opera will continue to perform in other places in Paris and around France.
