Three stunning natural parks in the Philippines — Apo Reef, Turtle Islands, and Balinsasayao Twin Lakes — have just been added to the ASEAN Heritage Parks list! 🌳🏝️ These parks are now part of an important group of 62 parks in Southeast Asia that protect special nature areas.
What Are ASEAN Heritage Parks?
The ASEAN Heritage Parks program was created to protect places with amazing nature and wildlife in Southeast Asia. These parks have important ecosystems and help protect endangered plants and animals. There are now 62 parks on this special list, and the Philippines has added three more!
Why Are These Parks So Special?
- Apo Reef Natural Park in Mindoro is the largest coral reef system in the Philippines and the second-largest in the world! 🐠🌊 It’s home to hundreds of fish species, endangered turtles, and even whale sharks!
- Turtle Islands in Sulu is the only place in the Philippines where Green Sea turtles lay their eggs. It’s also the 11th largest turtle nesting site in the world! 🐢
- Balinsasayao Twin Lakes in Negros Oriental is a beautiful place with two lakes surrounded by forests and wild animals. 🌳🌲 It has a mix of forests, fields, and water areas that help protect many animals.
More Philippine Parks on the List
In total, the Philippines now has 13 amazing parks on the ASEAN Heritage list! Some other parks include Mt. Apo, Tubbataha Reefs, and Mt. Makiling. These parks are all important for protecting the country’s nature and wildlife.
