Sofronio Vasquez Shares Michael Bublé’s Special Bond with PH

MANILA, Philippines — The “It’s Showtime” hosts had the chance to talk to Sofronio Vasquez via video call all the way from the U.S., celebrating his historic win as the first Asian champion of The Voice USA. Sofronio shared his emotional journey and an intriguing story about his coach, Michael Bublé, and his special connection to the Philippines.

A Dream Come True

Sofronio couldn’t help but get emotional as he talked about his victory in the prestigious American singing competition. He described it as a lifelong dream that finally came true.

“I’m so proud that I started in Tawag ng Tanghalan,” he said, recalling his days as a contestant on the It’s Showtime segment where he finished as the third runner-up. “It was Tawag ng Tanghalan that first believed in me.”

A Filipino on the Global Stage

Initially, Sofronio was set to represent Utica, New York, where he resides. However, the show’s producer encouraged him to represent the Philippines, making him the first-ever full-blooded Filipino born and raised in the country to join the competition.

“I’m thankful because they saw the importance of representing the Philippines, and I proudly took that role,” Sofronio said.

Michael Bublé’s Surprising Connection to the Philippines

Sofronio’s journey was guided by his coach, Canadian singer Michael Bublé. During their time together, Bublé shared his “deep connection” to the Philippines.

“He told me that Martin Nievera is his kumpare (close friend) and hinted that he once dated someone we all know—a true goddess in the Philippines!” Sofronio shared with a laugh, teasing the It’s Showtime hosts with a blind item.

“Who could that be?” the hosts excitedly asked, adding to the mystery.

Words of Wisdom for Dreamers

When asked what advice he could give to aspiring singers, Sofronio emphasized resilience.

“Don’t give up, no matter how many times you get rejected. Rejections don’t mean it’s the end for you,” he said passionately.

He reflected on his own struggles: “Who would’ve thought? I’m Bisaya from Mindanao, trying to make a name in music. I auditioned everywhere, and it took me 10 years to get here. Just don’t stop chasing your dreams.”

Gratitude to Supporters

Sofronio expressed his heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported him, especially Filipinos and Filipino-Americans who cheered for him throughout the competition.

This win is not just Sofronio’s victory but also a proud moment for the Philippines, proving that talent and determination can break boundaries and shine on the world stage. 🌟
