The National Water Resources Board (NWRB) on Wednesday said Angat Dam has enough water to supply the needs during the dry season.
Interviewed on Dobol B TV, NWRB Sevillo David Jr. said the current water level in Angat Dam was at 205 meters, which is higher compared to its normal level during this period at 192 meters.
“Sa kasalukuyan ay nasa 205 meters po ang level ng Angat Dam. Sa ganitong sitwasyon ay sa tingin natin sapat ang supply natin sa panahon ng tag-init,” he said.
(Currently, the water level in Angat Dam is at 205 meters. In this situation, we think that we have enough supply for the dry season.)
Angat Dam supplies around 96% of Metro Manila’s water needs.
Despite having enough supply from Angat Dam, David warned the public from being complacent asEl Ni?o may affect the water supply.
He said the effects of El Ni?o may be felt during the end part of the year when rains are still expected to fill reservoirs.
The El Ni?o phenomenon is characterized by the abnormal warming of sea surface temperature in the central and eastern equatorial Pacific Ocean and below normal rainfall.
In preparation for the possible shortage, David said Putatan and Cardona water treatment plants as well as deep wells will augment the supply.
Meanwhile, in observance of the World Water Day with the theme “Be The Change,” David encourages the public to be more responsible in using water.
“Mas maganda siguro magbago tayo sa paggamit ng tubig at mas maging responsable para mapangalagaan at mabigyang seguridad ‘yung pangangailangan natin sa tubig,” he said.
