Devotees of the Black Nazarene on Saturday night participated in the Walk of Thanksgiving which ushered in the start of the Nazareno 2024 activities of Quiapo Church in Manila.
The procession, which featured the image of the Black Nazarene, started at 11:30 p.m. from Quiapo Church, also called the Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Jesus Nazareno.
The image on board a carroza was taken on the streets around the church.
Parish officials, members of the Hijos del Nazareno, and police personnel joined the devotees in the procession which took more than two hours. The event was live streamed on the church’s Facebook page.
Quiapo Church earlier released the rest of the activities for Nazareno 2024, which will culminate in the Traslacion on January 9:
January 1 and 2: Barangay visitation in Quiapo community January 3 and 4: Blessing and procession of replicas of the image of the Black Nazarene January 5, First Friday: Masses to be held at Quiapo Church starting at 4 a.m., with the last Mass scheduled at 8 p.m. January 8, Monday: Masses to be held starting at 3 a.m. January 9, Tuesday: Masses will start at 12 a.m. Traslacion to start from Quirino Grandstand to Quiapo Church.
The Quiapo Church earlier bared the route for the 2024 Black Nazarene Traslacion procession on January 9.
The Traslacion is an annual procession that draws millions of Filipino devotees from all over the country.
The new Traslacion committee plans to place a glass case around the over 400-year-old image of the Black Nazarene.
Meanwhile, around 15,000 police personnel will be deployed to secure the activities of the 2024 Black Nazarene feast which includes the traditional Traslacion, the Philippine National Police earlier said. —KG, GMA Integrated News
