VP Sara Gears Up for Impeachment—What Happens Next?

Vice President Sara Duterte is getting ready for a big legal battle. She said her legal team is already preparing for her impeachment trial. At the same time, she is also helping her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, with his legal case. He is currently detained in The Hague, Netherlands due to an international case against him.

What’s Happening with VP Sara’s Impeachment?

VP Sara shared that her legal team was already formed even before her father was detained. This means they were ready and are now working hard to prepare for the upcoming trial.

“Everything is okay with the impeachment because before my father was taken, the legal team was already prepared. Now, they are getting ready for the trial,” she explained in an interview on 24 Oras.

Why is Former President Duterte in the Netherlands?

VP Sara said she cannot leave the Netherlands yet because her father still needs legal help. His defense team is not yet complete, and they are waiting for important documents for other lawyers to join.

“I need to stay here to introduce the lawyer in charge of my father’s case to my siblings and to Cielito ‘Honeylet’ Avanceña (his long-time partner). Once everything is set, I can go back to the Philippines and return here only when needed,” she explained.

What About the Controversy on Confidential Funds?

While VP Sara is busy abroad, a new issue is making headlines. Reports say that during her time as the Secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd), some people received confidential funds.

When asked about it, VP Sara responded:

“They already filed an impeachment complaint against me, and it is now in the Senate. They can say whatever they want. Meanwhile, Congressman Pantaleon Alvarez also filed a complaint questioning the budget.”

She added, “I can say what I want to say, too. Just because I criticize what they are doing to our country, doesn’t mean I have to answer everything they say.”

Did VP Sara Call for President Marcos to Resign?

Recently, VP Sara met with her father’s supporters in The Hague. During the meeting, people started chanting “Marcos Resign!”

She was asked if she agreed that President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. should step down. VP Sara said:

“I never said that BBM should resign. What I told the people was, ‘If you are calling for his resignation, you should have a reason for it.’ I gave them examples of how they can justify their stance.”

Meanwhile, Malacañang Palace responded by asking, “Who will benefit if the President resigns?”

Will VP Sara Run for President in 2028?

When asked if she is planning to run for President in 2028, VP Sara said it is too early to decide.

“I was advised to make a decision by December 2026. We have to look at the numbers, science, and mathematics before making a final choice,” she explained.

Are the Dutertes Supporting Senator Imee Marcos?

Some people noticed that President Marcos did not mention his sister, Senator Imee Marcos, during recent campaign events. This happened after Senator Imee opened a Senate inquiry on her father’s detention.

When asked if PDP-Laban (a political party) will support Imee Marcos, VP Sara said it will be up to her father.

“The slate is under former President Rodrigo Duterte. It’s sad that this happened to Senator Imee Marcos, but I appreciate that she investigated my father’s illegal arrest,” she said.

What’s Next?

With VP Sara’s impeachment trial coming up, her father’s international case, and political tensions rising, a lot is happening in Philippine politics. People are waiting to see what will happen next!
