Trump Might Rejoin the World Health Organization, He Says

A New Twist on WHO Exit
In a surprising announcement, President Donald Trump revealed he might reconsider his decision for the United States to leave the World Health Organization (WHO). Speaking at a rally in Las Vegas, Trump stated, “Maybe we would consider doing it again. I don’t know. Maybe we would. They would have to clean it up.”

This comes just days after Trump officially ordered the US withdrawal from the WHO, citing dissatisfaction with its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and other global health emergencies.

The US-WHO Relationship
The United States is the WHO’s largest financial contributor, providing approximately 18% of its total funding. For the 2024–2025 budget cycle, the WHO has an approved budget of $6.8 billion. Trump criticized the funding imbalance, pointing out that the US pays significantly more than China, despite China’s larger population.

The US is currently scheduled to exit the WHO on January 22, 2026, following Trump’s second-term inauguration.

Big Plans for Saudi Investment
During the rally, Trump also revealed ambitious plans to boost US-Saudi relations. He shared that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has pledged $600 billion for investments and trade with the US over the next four years. Trump said he would push for that figure to reach $1 trillion, underscoring the importance of strengthening economic ties with the kingdom.

Why It Matters
Trump’s potential openness to rejoining the WHO signals a shift in his stance but comes with a clear message: changes must happen for the US to participate again. Meanwhile, his focus on Saudi investments highlights his goal of attracting international funding to boost the American economy.

Looking Ahead
As the US moves closer to its planned exit from the WHO, Trump’s conditions for rejoining will likely become a central topic of global discussion. At the same time, his push for massive Saudi investments underscores his vision for economic growth through international partnerships.

This evolving story highlights Trump’s strategy of using leverage to negotiate reforms and prioritize what he sees as America’s interests on the global stage.
