Vice President Sara Duterte spoke to the press on Wednesday, saying she has no plans to leave or hide in case she is arrested due to the legal problems and impeachment complaints she is facing. She explained that her children are in the Philippines, and she wants to be close to them, even if she gets detained.
Duterte is facing serious charges, including complaints for direct assault and disobedience. The complaints came after an incident at the House of Representatives Detention Center and Veterans Memorial Medical Center involving Duterte’s chief of staff, Zuleika Lopez. Duterte’s legal team is preparing to defend her, as she expects more impeachment complaints to be filed against her.
Despite these issues, Duterte says she doesn’t want to leave the country. She added that her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, offered to help with her legal expenses, but she declined. She plans to meet her father at their family’s Christmas gathering on December 24 to discuss the situation.
In addition to these legal troubles, Duterte has also faced a subpoena from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) about a controversial comment she made regarding President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. However, she did not attend the NBI hearing, and her lawyer sent a letter to explain her absence.
Duterte remains focused on her children and family during this challenging time, saying she wants to stay in the Philippines regardless of what happens.
