AMID 6% WB GROWTH FORECAST

Published June 9, 2023 5:21pm

Speaker Martin Romualdez of Leyte said the House of Representatives would not allow distractions in formulating policies for the benefit of the Filipino people.

Romualdez issued the statement in light of the World Bank projecting a 6% gross domestic product (GDP) growth for the Philippines in 2023, a higher estimate compared with its previous forecasts of 5.4% in December and 5.6% in April.

“This upgraded [World Bank] forecast reinforces the positive trajectory of the Philippine economy and demonstrates that we are on the right track towards recovery and progress,” said Romualdez.

The positive projection was also a testament to the resilience of Filipino, the dynamism of Philippine businesses, and the stability of the country’s economic fundamentals.

“We will not allow any distraction to derail our efforts at finding appropriate and timely solutions to the problems affecting the lives of our people,” Romualdez added.

Romualdez then reiterated that the House was able to shepherd the passage of 33 out of 42 priority bills listed by the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC) before Congress adjourned its First Regular Session two weeks ago.

“As the House amply demonstrated, we remain committed to implementing policies that will further stimulate economic activity, attract investments, and generate employment opportunities for our fellow Filipinos,” Romualdez added. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
