Former Vice President Leni Robredo said on Friday that she welcomed President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. during his visit to Sorsogon City as a sign of respect.
In a radio interview, Robredo explained that when Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero asked her to join in welcoming the President, she didn’t hesitate.
“For me, it’s not an issue. It’s about showing respect for the position,” Robredo said. “So I didn’t think twice when Senator Chiz asked me to help welcome the President.”
Robredo added, “I think it’s the right thing to do since he was a guest in the Bicol Region. The only problem was I couldn’t stay long because I had other commitments.”
Earlier, President Marcos expressed happiness over what seemed like a “political reconciliation” between him and Robredo. During the inauguration of the Sorsogon Sports Arena, the two briefly met and shook hands.
Robredo and Marcos were political rivals in both the 2016 and 2022 national elections.
