Pokwang, a popular comedian in the Philippines, was devastated after losing a huge amount of money from her GCash account. On Saturday, she posted on Instagram, showing that her hard-earned funds were taken by about 30 unregistered cellphone numbers without her knowledge.
“Every day I work honestly, and I even help other single moms by giving them jobs,” Pokwang wrote. “Then one morning, I woke up, and my GCash account was empty. It’s heartbreaking! I built this business by myself after being let down by someone I trusted.”
Pokwang seemed to be referring to her ex-partner, Lee O’Brian, with whom she once shared a business called PokLee Cooking. She hinted at betrayal, expressing how hard it was to start over and then face this new issue with GCash.
Pokwang isn’t the only one affected. Many people shared similar experiences online, complaining about unauthorized transactions draining their GCash accounts.
GCash released a statement saying they are aware of the issue and have reached out to those affected. “Wallet adjustments are ongoing,” GCash explained. They assured customers that this problem happened because of a mistake during their system update and is only affecting a few users.
GCash also stated, “We assure our customers that their accounts are safe.”
Pokwang, despite the setback, recently launched a new business called Mamang Pokwang’s Gourmet. She’s determined to move forward and rebuild, hoping this latest problem with GCash gets resolved soon.
Authorities, including the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group, have been informed and are looking into the matter.
