Pinoy Priest Named New Bishop by Pope Francis

Reverend Romeo Duetao Convocar, a Filipino priest from Janiuay, Iloilo, has been appointed by Pope Francis as the new bishop of Chalan Kanoa in the Northern Mariana Islands! This big news was announced by Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle during the diocese’s 40th-anniversary celebration.

Father Convocar, who is currently serving as a parish priest in Tamuning, Guam, will succeed Bishop Ryan Jimenez, now the Archbishop of Agaña, Guam. Born on April 13, 1970, Father Convocar has an inspiring journey. After studying philosophy and theology in the Philippines, he became a priest in 1996 and served in many roles, including military chaplain and parish administrator in Guam.

He has also held leadership roles like being a rector of the Saint John Paul II Seminary in Guam. His appointment highlights his dedication to faith, service, and community. Let’s celebrate this proud moment for the Philippines! 🎉
