Have you ever wondered how much money from other countries is worth in the Philippines? Every day, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), or the central bank of the Philippines, updates the exchange rates. This means they tell us how much one country’s money is worth in Philippine Pesos (PHP) when exchanged. Let’s break it down so even a 4th grader can understand!
What is an Exchange Rate?
An exchange rate tells us how much one unit of money from a country is worth in another country’s currency. For example, if you have 1 US dollar (USD) and want to exchange it for Philippine Pesos (PHP), the BSP says it’s worth ₱57.33 today (March 25, 2025).
Exchange Rates for Some Important Currencies
Here are some of the most common foreign currencies and their exchange values in Philippine Pesos:
1 US Dollar (USD) = ₱57.33
1 Japanese Yen (JPY) = ₱0.38
1 British Pound (GBP) = ₱74.08
1 Hong Kong Dollar (HKD) = ₱7.37
1 Canadian Dollar (CAD) = ₱40.04
1 Singapore Dollar (SGD) = ₱42.84
1 Australian Dollar (AUD) = ₱36.02
1 Saudi Riyal (SAR) = ₱15.28
1 UAE Dirham (AED) = ₱15.61
1 Thai Baht (THB) = ₱1.69
1 Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) = ₱0.0034 (which means 1,000 Rupiah = ₱3.40!)
Some currencies, like the Kuwaiti Dinar (KWD), do not have exchange rates listed today.
What Else is Important?
BSP Buying Rate – This is the price the BSP pays when it buys foreign money. Today, the buying rate is ₱57.05 per 1 USD.
BSP Selling Rate – This is the price the BSP charges when selling foreign money. Today, the selling rate is ₱57.55 per 1 USD.
BSP Reference Rate – This is the average rate used as a reference, which today is ₱57.30 per 1 USD.
Gold & Silver Prices – If you’re wondering about precious metals, today gold is priced at $3,010.40 per ounce, and silver is at $32.90 per ounce.
Why Do Exchange Rates Matter?
If you send or receive money from another country, the exchange rate affects how much you get.
Businesses that buy and sell goods from other countries use exchange rates to set prices.
If you travel abroad, you need to exchange your pesos for the currency of the country you’re visiting!
The BSP updates exchange rates
every day, so the values can go up or down. Always check before exchanging money so you know exactly how much your money is worth!
