PH Gov’t Pursues Justice for Pinay Wife Killed by Slovenian

In Vienna, the Philippine government is taking action to ensure justice for Marvil Facturan, a Filipina tragically killed during a vacation in Slovenia. Philippine Ambassador to Austria Evangelina Lourdes A. Bernas confirmed that efforts are underway to file a formal case against her Slovenian husband, Mitja Kocjancic, the primary suspect in the crime.

Bringing Marvil Home

The remains of Marvil Facturan arrived in Cebu on Saturday and were transported to her family in Negros Oriental. The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), through its coordination with Marvil’s mother, is assisting her family during this difficult time.

Ongoing Investigation in Slovenia

Slovenian authorities are finalizing the autopsy report, which is a key requirement for filing the case in court. Ambassador Bernas stated, “This means the authorities will truly pursue legal action.” She added that the Slovenian community is deeply shocked, as such crimes are rare in their country. Authorities have ensured the suspect remains in custody.

Kocjancic, the accused husband, is currently held in a Slovenian forensic prison. This facility provides mental health services to individuals charged with crimes who may have mental health conditions.

A Tragic Timeline

The tragedy unfolded on December 29, just a week after Marvil arrived in Slovenia with her husband. According to reports, Kocjancic had previously stayed with Marvil’s family in the Philippines, where he was treated with kindness during his visit.

Condemnation and Support

The Philippine government and various organizations have expressed their grief and outrage over the incident. The Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO) shared its condolences with Marvil’s family, condemning domestic violence and honoring Marvil’s memory.

“The Philippine Government condemns this tragic incident and expresses heartfelt condolences to the victim’s bereaved family,” DFA Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega said.

Seeking Justice

The DFA and Philippine Embassy in Vienna are committed to ensuring that justice is served. This tragic incident highlights the importance of protecting Filipinos abroad and supporting victims of domestic violence.

Marvil Facturan’s family, friends, and community continue to grieve her loss while awaiting justice for her untimely and heartbreaking death.
