The Philippine government is working hard to improve its ports and make new places more accessible for cruise ships. This way, travelers can enjoy visiting more unique destinations in the country. At the Seatrade Cruise Asia event in Taguig City, Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco shared that the Department of Tourism (DOT) is teaming up with the Department of Transportation to upgrade ports and create a better experience for tourists.
In Manila, talks are underway to improve the Manila South Harbor for cruise passengers. Secretary Frasco emphasized that the goal is to make sure that tourists have a positive experience the moment they arrive in the Philippines. The country is expecting to welcome over 100 cruise ships this year, bringing visitors to 40 different places, including new spots like Ticao Island and Culion.
The cruise industry is growing again after the pandemic, with more destinations opening up and travelers feeling more confident about traveling. MSC Cruises, a popular cruise line, is planning to open an office in Singapore next year to focus more on Southeast Asia, including the Philippines. They see the Philippines as a special place and hope to have cruise ships based here in a few years.
Celebrity Cruises also praised the Philippines for being a leader in the cruise industry, highlighting the government’s efforts to attract more cruise ships, such as the Cruise Visa Waiver program.
The government is working to make the Philippines a top cruise hub by offering authentic experiences and showcasing the country’s rich culture. With a population of nearly 700 million in Southeast Asia, this region has great potential for cruise tourism, and the Philippines is ready to offer unique, beautiful destinations that are not yet overcrowded.
The Philippine Ports Authority is busy developing new facilities at popular destinations like Siargao, Coron, and Boracay. At the same time, the DOT is checking out other new places for cruises to make sure they offer safe and unforgettable experiences for tourists.
