Animal rights group Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) on Friday filed a complaint against the security guard who allegedly threw a puppy from a footbridge.
PAWS executive director Anna Cabrera and a witness filed a complaint for violation of Republic Act 8485 or the Animal Welfare Act against the guard with the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.
Those found guilty of violating RA 8485 may be imprisoned for six months to two years.
“Gusto naming paalala sa lahat na ang animal cruelty ay labag sa batas at huwag nila mamaliitin ang batas na ito. Ang purpose nitong batas na ito is to promote a peaceful society,” Cabrera said in an interview.
(We want to remind everyone that animal cruelty is against the law and they should not underestimate this law. The purpose of the law is to promote a peaceful society.)
Lucky, the puppy, was reportedly eating when the mall guard confronted the children, April and Sandra, to leave the premises.
The children asked for some time but the guard grabbed the puppy by the neck and threw it down the street. The puppy was declared dead on arrival after being brought to a veterinary clinic by a passerby.
Meanwhile, SM North EDSA said the guard has been dismissed. — Joahna Lei Casilao/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
