OFW Jenny Alvarado laid to rest in Rizal amid unanswered questions

Jenny Alvarado, an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) who tragically died under unclear circumstances in Kuwait, was laid to rest on Sunday in Rodriguez, Rizal. Her passing has left her family and the nation seeking answers.

A Heartfelt Farewell

At the emotional funeral, Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac personally attended to pay his respects and offer condolences to Jenny’s grieving family. The DMW pledged to support the family through various means, including livelihood programs, employment opportunities, and covering her children’s education expenses.

The Wrong Cadaver: A Painful Mix-Up

Jenny’s remains arrived in the Philippines on January 16, but not without a heartbreaking incident. Her family initially received the wrong body, raising doubts about how authorities handled her case. This mix-up has intensified their calls for a thorough investigation into her death.

Mysterious Death in Kuwait

Jenny reportedly died on January 2 from inhaling coal smoke at her workplace in Kuwait. Two of her colleagues, one from Nepal and another from Sri Lanka, also perished in the same incident. Despite these claims, her family and others suspect there may be more to the story.

Pursuit of Justice

The DMW has announced plans to file a negligence case against Jenny’s employer, citing potential lapses in workplace safety. At the same time, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has instructed the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait to investigate whether foul play contributed to her untimely death.

Calls for Accountability

Senator Raffy Tulfo voiced his concern, stating that he believes foul play might have been involved after listening to the statements of Jenny’s daughters. Their pleas for justice have ignited public demand for a deeper probe into her death and greater protection for OFWs worldwide.

A Nation Demands Answers

As Jenny Alvarado is finally laid to rest, her family continues to seek the truth about her tragic passing. Her story underscores the need for better safeguards and support for Filipino workers abroad, ensuring their safety and dignity in their pursuit of a better life.
