DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – Some OFW in UAE who have overstayed are now getting help from potential employers to secure proper documents during the government’s two-month amnesty program, according to Philippine Ambassador Alfonso Ver.
At the processing center in Al Awir, employers like cleaning agencies are stepping in to provide necessary paperwork, such as employment offers and contracts, Ver shared in an interview.
Meanwhile, 91 Filipinos were recently repatriated on October 17, 2024, under the ongoing amnesty program, bringing the total number of amnesty beneficiaries sent home to 400. Among the repatriates were minors and people with medical conditions, who received consular support and airfare assistance to return safely to the Philippines.
The amnesty, which forgives fines and penalties, offers two options: return to the Philippines with a clean slate or stay in the UAE if a job is secured before the program ends on October 31, 2024.
With two weeks left, Ambassador Ver and Consul General Marford M. Angeles urged eligible Filipinos to take advantage of the program, as no extensions are expected.
