The popular K-pop group NewJeans, made up of Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein, dropped a bombshell during an emergency press conference on Thursday night. They announced they are terminating their exclusive contracts with ADOR, the HYBE subsidiary managing them.
Claims of Mistreatment
Speaking on behalf of the group, Hanni explained in English that their decision stems from claims of mistreatment, manipulation, and poor communication. She emphasized that ADOR’s work environment was not one they could continue to support.
“This is not the type of work ethic we respect nor want to be a part of,” Hanni said, adding that staying with a company that fails to protect them would only cause harm.
A New Chapter Ahead
Despite the announcement, NewJeans assured fans that they will continue performing, creating music, and meeting supporters worldwide. Danielle added that while they may lose the right to use the name “NewJeans” due to legal disputes, they are ready to fight for it.
“No matter what happens, remember, NewJeans never dies,” Danielle declared, promising their spirit and dedication to their craft will remain intact.
ADOR’s Response
In response, ADOR issued a statement asserting that the group’s contracts remain valid. The label denied any wrongdoing and expressed disappointment that the press conference was held without their prior knowledge.
“The exclusive contracts between ADOR and the NewJeans members remain valid,” the company said. ADOR also noted that they had been seeking meetings with the group to address their concerns but had yet to receive cooperation.
Despite the tension, ADOR expressed hope for reconciliation, stating, “We hope to have sincere conversations and will do our best to support NewJeans in their journey as global artists.”
