New Tourist Spot in Batanes? See What’s Opening

Imagine exploring the breathtaking views of Batanes and having the perfect place to rest, shop, and soak in its rich culture! 🌊🏡 A brand-new Tourist Rest Area (TRA) is coming to Sabtang, Batanes, and it’s set to enhance the travel experience for both local and foreign visitors.

What’s Happening?

Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco led the groundbreaking ceremony for this exciting project as part of the Philippine Experience Program (PEP). The TRA is funded by TIEZA (Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority) and is a flagship program of the Department of Tourism (DOT).

Why is This a Big Deal?

🔹 A Cozy Stop for Tourists – Travelers can relax, refresh, and enjoy the surroundings while taking a break from their Batanes adventures.
🔹 Showcasing Ivatan Culture – The rest area’s design will feature Batanes’ iconic stone houses, blending seamlessly with the local heritage.
🔹 Supporting Local Businesses – It will provide space for local artisans to sell traditional crafts, souvenirs, and other unique Ivatan products.
🔹 Boosting Batanes’ Tourism – More tourist-friendly facilities mean a better travel experience and more visitors exploring the beauty of the island.

More Tourist Rest Areas Coming!

This project is just one of the 100 planned TRAs across the country! By the end of the year, at least 60 more will begin construction in different regions.

More Infrastructure for Batanes

Aside from the TRA, DOT is also looking into:
✅ Improving access roads for easier travel 🚗
✅ Upgrading ports to help boost Batanes’ marine economy 🚢

Local Leaders Show Their Support

Vice Governor Ignacio Villa praised the DOT for honoring Ivatan architecture, ensuring the development stays true to Batanes’ roots.
Representative Ciriaco Gato Jr. added that this project will not only serve tourists but also uplift the local community by giving businesses a place to thrive.

After construction, the TRA will be managed by the local government, ensuring it serves travelers and locals for years to come.

🌍 Excited to visit Batanes? This new rest stop will make your trip even better! 🌊🏝️
