The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 suffered a power interruption for over 20 minutes on Friday afternoon due to a procedural lapse.
At a media briefing, Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) officer-in-charge Bryan Co said the power outage occurred while they were improving power services in the airport.
According to J0homer Apresto’s report on Super Radyo dzBB, the power outage occurred from 12:51 to 1:28 p.m. Some flights were delayed due to the incident.
Flight operations have returned to normal. While seven flights were directly affected by the incident, no flights were canceled.
This is the third time that the airport had a power interruption this year.
Some 282 flights were canceled, diverted, or delayed when a power outage hit the airport on New Year’s Day.
On Labor Day, 24 flights and 9,000 passengers were affected by another power interruption.
Senator Grace Poe said the airport needed an urgent power augmentation while a full electrical audit is ongoing, pointing out that “MIAA management must exercise technical oversight so these human errors are minimized.”
“These series of power outages also happened during peak travel dates – New Year, Labor Day, and now the Independence Day Long Weekend – when the airport is packed with people. Nagkataon lang ba o sinasadya na?” she said. –NB, GMA Integrated News
