Tropical storm “Nika” is getting stronger and is now located about 1,005 kilometers east of southeastern Luzon, according to the latest report from the Philippine weather agency PAGASA. Nika is expected to become a severe tropical storm by Monday afternoon or evening when it reaches the areas of Isabela or Aurora.
However, the storm is likely to weaken as it moves closer to the land due to the rough terrain of mainland Luzon.
As of now, areas in the southeastern part of Isabela, the northern part of Aurora, and several areas in Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, and parts of Albay are under Signal No. 1, meaning these areas could experience some strong winds and rain.
People in these regions should expect light to moderate effects from the storm, but the weather is still expected to be a bit rough, with winds possibly reaching around 30-60 km/h.
On Monday and Tuesday, places like Cagayan, Apayao, and Isabela will experience heavy rainfall, while areas like Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, and Ilocos Norte will also see intense rainfall. Other places like Ifugao and Quirino may experience moderate to heavy rain as well.
Residents in these areas should prepare for strong winds and heavy rain as the storm passes through.
