Mariz Umali Speaks Out: “I Was Misheard!

Mariz Umali, a well-known reporter from GMA Integrated News, is speaking up about a viral video that has caused quite a stir online.

A vlogger claimed that Umali called Former Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea “matanda” (old) while he was being taken out on a stretcher. But Umali quickly denied this, saying it was a complete misunderstanding.

So, what did she actually say?

According to Umali, she was reviewing an exclusive GMA News video with a colleague when she made an observation about Medialdea’s eyes. She recalled saying:
“Look at his eyes. They were open at first, but when he saw me, he closed them.”

She explained that her comment had nothing to do with his age. She was simply describing what she saw in the video. However, the vlogger took it the wrong way, and now the false claim is spreading fast.

Setting the Record Straight

On Facebook, Umali clarified that she never meant any disrespect toward Medialdea. She hopes that people will not believe everything they hear without checking the facts.

Meanwhile, Medialdea is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in The Hague. Reports say he fell ill while visiting former President Duterte at the detention center. He was immediately given medical attention by the center’s medic.

Vice President Sara Duterte also confirmed that Medialdea will step down as one of Duterte’s lawyers because of the limited slots for legal counsel.

The Takeaway?

Not everything you see online is true! Always check the facts before believing or sharing a viral video. Umali’s words were twisted, and now she’s facing backlash for something she never said.
