Marcos: Let’s commit ourselves to the unfinished work of democracy

”Let us commit ourselves to the unfinished work of democracy.”

This was the call made by President Ferdinand ”Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Thursday during the 63rd founding anniversary of the Philippine Constitution Association, Inc. (Philconsa).

He said it must be acknowledged that many of the laws that fully bring life to the Constitution have remained unpassed.

”Our efforts to fully empower our people and deepen our democracy still fall short of what the framers envisioned,” Marcos said. ”It is high time that we take decisive action. The Bagong Pilipinas calls upon all the branches of the government to rise to this challenge.”

”So, as we celebrate today’s milestone, let us commit ourselves to the unfinished work of democracy,” the President added.

Marcos also underscored the vital role of Philconsa in preserving and protecting democracy in the country.

“In the past 63 years, the Philconsa has remained the steadfast, vigilant, and uncompromising guardians of our democracy and of our nation,” Marcos said.

“Despite global uncertainties and geopolitical tensions, the Philippines has remained a bastion of resilience, peace, and stability,” he added.

He also mentioned that amid the rising maritime tensions in the West Philippine Sea, the Philippines continues to assert its sovereignty and jurisdiction to protect the integrity of its national territory.

Founded on September 26, 1961, Philconsa is a 130-member non-stock and non-profit civic organization of legal luminaries, business and socio-civic leaders.

The organization aims to defend and preserve the Constitution and engender awareness and stimulate public interest on the basic law by propagating and promoting its importance.
