President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. congratulated Donald Trump on his win in the 2024 U.S. presidential election, saying it showed the strength of American values. Marcos expressed excitement about working with Trump to strengthen the close relationship between the Philippines and the United States, which share common beliefs and a long history of cooperation.
Marcos emphasized that this partnership, built on freedom and democracy, is important for both nations and the region. He also shared that he met Trump when he was younger and believes Trump’s leadership will lead to a better future for everyone.
The Philippines’ Ambassador to the U.S., Jose Manuel Romualdez, assured that the relationship between the two countries will stay strong, no matter who wins the U.S. election. Former Philippine Ambassador to the U.S., Jose Cuisia Jr., however, said that a win for Kamala Harris could be better for the Philippines because Trump might raise tariffs, which could make Philippine exports more expensive.
Despite the election results, both ambassadors agreed that the U.S. would continue to support the Philippines, especially in issues like the South China Sea, where tensions with China remain high.
