More People Support Marcos, While Duterte’s Support Drops

A recent survey by OCTA Research shows that more Filipinos are now supporting President Marcos, while fewer people back former President Duterte.

The survey, called “Tugon ng Masa,” was done between August 28 and September 2, 2024. It found that 38% of adult Filipinos said they were pro-Marcos, which is 2% more than the previous survey in March.

In different regions, about 4 out of 10 people in Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon support Marcos. In Mindanao, around 3 out of 10 people back him, and 37% of those in the Visayas are pro-Marcos.

On the other hand, only 15% of Filipinos now consider themselves pro-Duterte, which is 1% less than in the last survey.

Meanwhile, 26% of Filipinos said they don’t support any political side, whether it’s Marcos, Duterte, or the opposition. This group is mostly found in the Visayas (32%), followed by Metro Manila (27%), the rest of Luzon (26%), and Mindanao (19%). There has been a 5% drop in the number of people who see themselves as independent since the last survey.

The survey also found that independents are most common among wealthier Filipinos, with 35% of people in Class ABC calling themselves independent, followed by 25% of Class D and 22% of Class E.

Finally, 14% of Filipinos said they weren’t sure which political side they supported.

The survey involved 1,200 people across the country and has a margin of error of ±3%. For specific areas like Metro Manila, the Visayas, Mindanao, and Luzon, the margin of error was ±6%.
