Lebanon and Hezbollah Agree to US Ceasefire Proposal with Israel

Lebanon and Hezbollah have agreed to a proposal from the United States to stop fighting with Israel. This is an important step towards ending the conflict. The proposal was discussed with the help of a Lebanese official, Ali Hassan Khalil, who said Lebanon sent its response to the US ambassador on Monday. The US is sending Amos Hochstein to Beirut to keep talking about the peace process.

Hezbollah, which is supported by Iran, allowed their ally, Nabih Berri, to lead the talks for peace. Lebanon shared some ideas about the proposal in a positive way, making sure they follow United Nations Resolution 1701. This resolution ended a war between Hezbollah and Israel in 2006 and includes rules like no Hezbollah fighters should be near the Lebanese-Israeli border.

Khalil explained that whether the peace plan works depends on Israel. If Israel does not agree to the deal, it could cause more problems. Israel has said that Hezbollah still has fighters and weapons near the border, while Lebanon accuses Israel of breaking the peace by sending warplanes into their airspace. Despite Israel’s attacks, Lebanon’s position on the peace plan remains strong.
