In Seattle, Washington, a Japan Airlines jet accidentally hit the tail of a Delta Air Lines plane while both planes were moving on the ground at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The incident happened at around 10:40 a.m. local time on Wednesday.
What Happened?
The Delta plane, a 737-800, was getting ready to fly to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, with 142 passengers on board. The plane was waiting to be deiced (treated to remove ice from the plane) when the Japan Airlines Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, which had just landed from Tokyo, struck the tail of the Delta aircraft.
No One Was Hurt!
Thankfully, no one was injured in the accident. The passengers on the Delta plane were safely moved to another plane, and their flight to Puerto Vallarta was delayed.
Investigations Begin
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) paused some flights at the airport for a short time and is now looking into what caused the accident. Both Delta Air Lines and the FAA will be investigating.
Japan Airlines has not yet commented on the incident.
For now, both airlines are working together to figure out how this happened and to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
