The Philippine government has announced that January 27, 2025 (Monday), will be a special holiday for Muslims in the country to celebrate Isra Wal Mi’raj, an important event in Islam. This day honors the Night Journey and Ascension of the Prophet Muhammad.
According to Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, the holiday will be observed specifically in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and other areas with large Muslim populations. He explained that while it’s not a national holiday, it is a holiday for Muslims in certain regions, as defined by the Muslim Code.
For Muslims living in areas like the National Capital Region (NCR), where the holiday is not observed, they are excused from work on this day.
The Isra Wal Mi’raj is a special occasion in Islam that celebrates when Prophet Muhammad made a miraculous journey from Mecca to the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem and then ascended to the seven heavens. It is considered a significant and spiritual event in the Islamic faith.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. sent his well wishes to Filipino Muslims as they celebrate this important event in 2025, encouraging them to continue working hard and persevering in order to achieve success.
