Israel announced on Thursday that its ceasefire with Hezbollah was broken after Israeli tanks attacked six areas in southern Lebanon. This attack came just hours after a truce was reached between Israel and Hezbollah, allowing people to return to their homes after 14 months of fighting.
The ceasefire, which started on Wednesday, was brokered by the US and France, aiming to bring peace to the border areas devastated by conflict. However, Israel’s military said the ceasefire was violated after suspects, some traveling in vehicles, arrived at various spots in the southern zone of Lebanon.
Hezbollah accused Israel of attacking people trying to return to their villages in southern Lebanon. The Israeli military had earlier advised people to stay away from the area for their safety. The areas hit by Israeli tank fire included Markaba, Wazzani, Kfarchouba, Khiyam, Taybe, and the agricultural plains around Marjayoun, all near the border line between Lebanon and Israel.
The ceasefire agreement was supposed to stop fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, a major militant group in Lebanon. However, tensions remain, with both sides on edge. Hezbollah vowed to stay prepared, while Israel has yet to withdraw fully from southern Lebanon.
The situation is still tense, as Israel continues its conflict with Hamas in Gaza, and both sides watch the border closely.
