MANILA – On Tuesday, Isko Moreno officially submitted his certificate of candidacy (COC) to run for mayor of Manila in the upcoming 2025 elections, according to Super Radyo dzBB reporter Isa Avendaño-Umali on X (formerly Twitter).
Moreno, who previously served as Manila’s mayor from 2019 to 2022, is looking to reclaim his position. However, he faces strong competition, including current Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna, who was once his ally and vice mayor. Lacuna filed her own COC on October 3. Also in the race are Tutok to Win party-list Rep. Sam Verzosa, who entered his candidacy on Sunday, and Arnel Karingal.
Moreno’s running mate, Chi Atienza, also filed her COC, showing their team’s readiness for the upcoming election. Meanwhile, Moreno’s son, Joaquin Domagoso, is aiming for a councilor seat in Manila.
Adding more excitement to the election, popular blogger Mocha Uson has also filed her COC to run for councilor. Uson previously served as deputy administrator of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration and as assistant secretary in the Presidential Communications Operations Office in 2017.
The 2025 election is shaping up to be a heated battle, with familiar faces and new contenders vying for top positions in Manila’s local government.
