More and more Filipino families are going hungry. A new survey says 27.2% of families didn’t have enough food at least once in the past three months. That’s the highest since the pandemic!
What’s Causing the Rise in Hunger?
Experts say hunger is increasing because of: Rising food prices
Low wages & job struggles
High cost of living
Where is Hunger the Worst?
Visayas – 33.7% (worst affected)
Metro Manila – 28.3%
Mindanao – 27.3%
Balance Luzon – 24%
Moderate vs. Severe Hunger
Moderate Hunger (21%) – Families went hungry “a few times”
Severe Hunger (6.2%) – Families went hungry “often” or “always”
Why This Matters
The numbers keep rising—hunger was only 15.9% in January, but now it’s nearly double that! The last time hunger was this bad was in 2020 during the pandemic.
What Can Be Done?
Government and private groups need to act fast to provide food aid, job programs, and support for struggling families.
