Hong Kong recently celebrated a special milestone as it welcomed its millionth Filipino visitor for 2024. The Linao family—Miguel, Ana, and their three kids—were greeted by the Hong Kong Tourism Board upon their arrival at Hong Kong International Airport on November 29.
This is a big achievement since, just a few years ago, the number of visitors from the Philippines was much lower. In 2018, only 930,000 Filipino travelers visited Hong Kong by November, so reaching one million visitors is a huge success, especially after the pandemic.
The Linao family isn’t new to Hong Kong. They were visiting again for one of their kids’ gymnastics competition and to enjoy some fun tourist spots. Miguel shared that Hong Kong is always a favorite family destination because it’s just under three hours away by plane. “We love the food, the theme parks, and the excitement of the city,” he said.
From January to October 2024, the Philippines made up 920,000 of the 2.3 million Southeast Asian visitors to Hong Kong, which shows a huge 127% recovery from pre-pandemic times.
With exciting events lined up, including a Coldplay concert at the Kai Tak Sports Park and the arrival of twin panda cubs at OceanPark, Hong Kong is expecting even more visitors from the Philippines in early 2025.
