Grade 12 Students Create Robot to Fight Fires in Tight Streets

Three Grade 12 students from Tapinac Senior High School have created a special robot to help firefighters put out fires in hard-to-reach places. The robot, named PYROSAGE, stands for “Portable Yet Robust Operation with Smart Automatic Guardian Fire Monitoring.”

The students — Ma. Casandra Dela Pena, Jazmine Valencia, and Paul Timpog — said their goal is not to replace firefighters but to assist them in their work. Jazmine explained that PYROSAGE is special because it can put out fires with more precision, helping firefighters in tough situations.

Paul added that although they made mistakes while developing the robot, they learned from them and improved the design.

The robot has sensors to detect fires and obstacles. It also has a camera for real-time monitoring, and firefighters can control it using Bluetooth. The team tested PYROSAGE with the Bureau of Fire Protection in Olongapo City, and it performed well in field tests!

This invention could be a big help for firefighters, especially in areas where it’s hard to get fire trucks through narrow streets.
