Gov’t Workers May Face Suspension for Sharing Political Posts

The Civil Service Commission (CSC) has released a new rule telling government workers not to get involved in political activities during the upcoming 2025 elections. This includes things like liking, sharing, or commenting on social media posts related to politics.

This rule is written in a document called Memorandum Circular 3-2025, which reminds all government employees to be careful with their social media use. The rule says that even simple actions like liking, sharing, or following political party accounts during the election campaign can be seen as supporting a candidate, which is not allowed.

The rule applies even if government employees do these activities outside of work hours or while not at work. This is because, according to the 1987 Constitution, government workers are not allowed to support any candidate or political party, directly or indirectly, during election time.

The rule also follows other important laws like the Administrative Code of 1987, the Omnibus Election Code, and the Local Government Code.

Who does this rule apply to? It includes all government workers in the Philippines, no matter what their job is or how long they’ve been working. It also covers military and police officers, as well as barangay officials.

If someone breaks this rule, they could face punishment. The first time they break the rule, they might be suspended for one month to six months. If they break the rule again, they could be fired from their job.

This rule is important to keep government work fair and free from any political influence. It helps ensure that government workers focus on their jobs and not on supporting any specific candidate during the election.
