The Philippine Ambassador to the US, Jose Manuel “Babes” Romualdez, has a clear message for Filipinos illegally staying in America: Don’t wait to be deported!
With the new US President Donald Trump promising stricter immigration rules, Romualdez warns that it’s better for those without legal status to return to the Philippines or start fixing their documents now. If you get deported, there’s almost no chance of returning to the US, he said.
Romualdez advised those affected to seek help from the Philippine Embassy, but they can only offer guidance. He stressed that hiding isn’t an option anymore, as US agencies now share information quickly.
Trump has made it clear he plans to tighten borders and enforce the law. So, Filipinos without legal status are urged to take action before it’s too late.
Key Numbers:
- Over 4.6 million Filipinos live in the US.
- Around 350,000 Filipinos are undocumented, making them the 5th largest group of unauthorized immigrants in the US.
