Filipinos in Lebanon Scared and Stuck as Conflict Worsens

Cici Brinces moved to Lebanon 14 years ago to work as a helper, got married, survived cancer, and had a son. But now, with bombs falling in Beirut, she wants to go back to the Philippines. “I feel like this is worse than when I had cancer,” she said, as she and her 10-year-old son now live in a shelter after fleeing their home.

Many foreign workers like Cici are scared and stuck in Lebanon’s dangerous conflict. Some, like Md Al Mamun from Bangladesh, who loves his bakery job, are also hoping to return home because of the bombings.

Lebanon is facing a lot of violence, with fighting between Israel and a group called Hezbollah, and many people are losing their homes. The Philippines government is planning to send a plane to help Filipinos return, and other countries are also working to bring their citizens back.

For many workers, leaving is a tough decision. Some worry about finding jobs back home, even with the dangers in Lebanon.
