The Philippines is working to bring home the remains of Marvil Facturan, a Filipina tragically killed in Slovenia, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed on Sunday.
Coordinated Efforts for Repatriation
DFA Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega announced that the Philippine Embassy in Vienna, which oversees Slovenia, is handling the repatriation. The DFA has allocated funding for this effort.
An autopsy of Marvil’s remains has been completed, and the embassy is in constant communication with her grieving mother in the Philippines.
“The Philippine Government condemns this tragic incident and expresses heartfelt condolences to the victim’s bereaved family,” De Vega said.
Justice for Marvil
In addition to repatriating her remains, the embassy is collaborating with Slovenian authorities to ensure justice is served. Ambassador Evangelina Lourdes Arroyo-Bernas highlighted the Slovenian government’s cooperation in the case.
The Philippine Honorary Consul in Bratislava has also played a vital role in gathering details and coordinating efforts to address this heartbreaking incident.
The Tragic Incident
Marvil Facturan was reportedly murdered by her husband, Mitja Kocjancic, during their vacation in Bled, Slovenia, on December 29. This devastating event has shocked the Filipino community and sparked calls for justice.
A Call Against Violence
The Commission on Filipinos Overseas expressed sorrow and solidarity with Marvil’s family, condemning domestic violence and honoring her memory.
“We stand with her family, seeking justice for our kababayan and honoring the beautiful life she lived,” the commission said.
The Philippine government remains steadfast in its commitment to ensure justice for Marvil while supporting her family through this unimaginable loss.
