Erwin Tulfo Fights for Zero Hospital Bills for OFWs

Senatorial candidate Erwin Tulfo wants to remove hospital bills for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their families—a move that could change the lives of millions of Filipinos.

OFWs Deserve Full Health Coverage

Tulfo is pushing for PhilHealth to cover 100% of medical expenses for OFWs and their families. Right now, PhilHealth only pays for part of the bill, leaving OFWs to pay the rest out of their own pockets.

“If PhilHealth can already cover half of the bill, that’s a big help. But imagine if OFWs and their families didn’t have to pay anything at all,” Tulfo explained.

For him, this is a way to give back to OFWs who sacrifice so much for their families and the country’s economy.

“This will be a huge relief for OFWs, especially those who earn just enough to support their families. They are already far from home—they shouldn’t have to worry about hospital bills, too,” he said.

Why Did Tulfo Push for This?

Tulfo said he came up with this proposal after hearing the concerns of Filipino migrant workers in Paris, France, during the Barrio Fiesta 2025 event in March. Many OFWs shared that medical costs remain a heavy burden for them and their loved ones in the Philippines.

Another Big Proposal Coming Soon!

Aside from free hospital bills, Tulfo is also working on a bill that would require PhilHealth to cover doctors’ professional fees in its benefit packages—making healthcare even more affordable for Filipinos.

If this plan pushes through, it could mean better healthcare, fewer worries, and more financial security for millions of OFWs and their families.

Do you support this? Should OFWs and their families get free hospital coverage?
