Former President Rodrigo Duterte might find it tough to change what he said during a Senate hearing about the drug war, according to Senate President Chiz Escudero.
Escudero explained that Duterte took an oath before speaking, which means he is expected to be honest. Even though Duterte didn’t say anything new, his statements in the Senate carry a lot of weight because he was under oath.
At the hearing, Duterte defended his actions against illegal drugs, saying it was not just about violence but about protecting innocent people. He stated, “My job as President was to protect the country and the Filipino people. I will not apologize for my actions. I did what I had to do.”
Escudero noted that in the video from the hearing, it was clear Duterte was serious about his statements. He said that nobody around Duterte can claim he was joking, especially since the full transcript of the hearing can be reviewed.
