DMW Warns Against Fake Overseas Employment Certificates

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is urging everyone to stay alert and report any individuals offering fake Overseas Employment Certificates (OECs). These fraudulent activities not only deceive hopeful workers but also put them at risk of illegal recruitment and human trafficking.

How to Report Fake OEC Sellers

If you encounter someone selling fake OECs, the DMW wants to hear from you. Reports can be sent through:

Fake OEC Case Intercepted

This warning follows a recent incident where a woman was stopped from leaving the country on December 30. The Bureau of Immigration found that she presented a fake OEC during her travel attempt, highlighting the dangers of relying on unauthorized agents for document processing.

DMW’s Reminder to the Public

In a Facebook post, the DMW issued a clear warning:
“Be smart and do not fall for offers of quick document processing just to leave the country for work abroad. Avoid becoming a victim of illegal recruitment, human trafficking, and online scams.”

Why This Matters

An OEC is a critical document for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), proving their legal employment abroad and allowing them to leave the country for work. Fake OECs not only jeopardize one’s ability to work abroad but can also lead to severe legal consequences and personal harm.

Stay Safe, Report Scams

The DMW is committed to protecting the welfare of Filipino workers. By reporting fraudulent activities, you can help prevent others from falling victim to these schemes and ensure a safer, legal pathway for those seeking opportunities abroad.

Let’s work together to stop fake OECs and illegal recruiters! Share this message and keep our kababayans informed.
