DMW & Angola Team Up to Boost OFW Protection – Here’s How

MANILA – The Philippine government is working on a new plan to make sure that Filipinos working in Angola are safe and treated well. The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), which helps Filipinos working abroad, is looking for ways to team up with Angola to protect Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).

On Thursday, DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac and Undersecretary Felicitas Bay had an important meeting with some key people. They met with Paul Raymond Cortes, the Philippine Ambassador to Portugal, and Megan Nicole Bréchet Amamou, the Philippine Honorary Consul for Angola. The meeting happened at the DMW office in Mandaluyong City.

During their discussion, Secretary Cacdac and Amamou talked about how both the Philippines and Angola can work together to make sure OFWs in Angola have fair treatment, good working conditions, and strong protection for their rights.

What’s the Situation in Angola?

Right now, the Philippines doesn’t have a special agreement with Angola about sending Filipino workers there. But despite this, more than 10,000 Filipinos are already working in Angola! Many of them have jobs in factories, mining, construction, and fishing. These are tough jobs, and the workers need proper protection to ensure they are safe and treated fairly.

Why Is This Important?

Filipinos working abroad send money home to their families, which helps the Philippine economy. That’s why the government wants to make sure they are safe and not being treated unfairly in other countries. By working with Angola, the DMW hopes to create stronger rules that will help OFWs get better working conditions.

This meeting was an important step in making sure every Filipino worker in Angola gets the protection they deserve. More updates are expected as both countries discuss how they can support OFWs even better!
