Ramon Magsaysay, the 7th President of the Philippines, was known as the “Champion of the Masses” because he worked hard to help the common people. He was the first president to wear a traditional Barong Tagalog during his inauguration at the Independence Grandstand (now called Quirino Grandstand) in Manila.
Magsaysay believed in being close to the people. He even opened the gates of Malacañang Palace, the home of the president, so the public could visit. This was something no other president had done before.
Sadly, his time as president ended suddenly on March 16, 1957, when his plane crashed on Mount Manunggal in Cebu.
Now, the Ramon Magsaysay Museum has been modernized. It has cool, interactive displays that make learning about his life fun and easy. You can also see real artifacts and items that tell the story of Magsaysay’s journey as a president and his legacy as a leader who cared deeply for the people.
